PROGRAMS
Competitive
New members join the team in September. Competitive members practice Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to prepare for competitions which are run in February, April and May. Members compete in groups of 4 or 5 within specified age categories. The group of young athletes compete in 4 speed relays and 4 freestyle events at each competition. Skills in both single rope and double dutch are taught. In addition to the group events, a jumper may compete in individual speed and freestyle events. Previous skipping experience is not necessary.
Recreational
We run several recreational sessions throughout the year. The first one runs from September to December. Another session will be scheduled for the Winter. Sessions are 8 or 10 weeks long and involve practicing skills and developing technique for one hour or more each week. Recreational members work through a series of skill levels and will start putting skills together to form a synchronized routine. Single Rope is the main focus, but some double dutch is taught.
Workshops
In the fall and spring, we run an all day workshop on a Saturday for groups and interested individuals. Our Spring 2009 workshop was attended by 30 children aged 6 to 14. Hopper coaching staff instruct the young enthusiasts in single rope, double dutch, chinese wheel and long rope skills.
Our next Skills Workshop will be in November 2010.
Check back for date, times and location in October.
Cross Training
The speed and endurance drills that competitive skippers do on a regular basis increase power, stamina and endurance in any athlete. Our program teaches other athletes and their coaches how to perform the drills to enhance speed and performance. Give us one hour of your time and we will show you and your athletes the drills you need to make a difference.
